Our History
Our history goes back well over a hundred years. In 1874 the entrepreneur Wilhelm Theodor Ewert set up Sweden’s first importing agency in Gothenburg for a number of famous wine and whisky companies. In 1891 Fritz Kramer, another young entrepreneur with a wine education, established a similar business based in Stockholm.
The Swedish market for alcoholic beverages underwent significant change over the last century. A history of wider spread drunkenness inspired political decisions aimed at limiting and controlling the alcohol consumption. Government owned monopolies for manufacuring, import and sales were implemented as well as limitations for restaurants. A 40 year period of ration book ended 1955 and restrictions were gradually liberalized. The only monoploly still in place is the retail monopoly (Systembolaget).
StellanKramer has a long history and is well known and respected
These two companies managed to survive and maintain their business and eventually came together under the name StellanKramer. Among the Swedish importers today we must be the company with the longest track record.
Since Sweden abandonned the import monopoly in 1995 we have been one of Sweden’s leading importers of Wine and Spirits. We import, store and sell all kind of wine and spirits to the Swedish retail monopoly Systembolaget and to restaurants. We are independent from other groups and experts on the Swedish market.
